Cold Calling Scripts: Templates You Can Actually Use

Full-call script templates, not just openers, for the three most common cold-calling situations: a cold outbound call, a referral call, and a re-engagement call.

A script isn't something to read word for word. It's scaffolding, so you're not improvising the structure of the call in real time, only the specifics. Here are three, for the three situations that cover most cold outbound.

Template 1: The cold outbound call

Use this when the prospect has never heard of you and doesn't know why you're calling.

"Hi [name], this is [you] from [company], this is a cold call, do you have 20 seconds?"

(If yes) "I'll be quick. I'm calling because [specific, researched reason tied to their business]. We help [role] at companies like [comparable company] with [specific outcome]. Is that something you're dealing with right now, or is that not really on your radar?"

(If they engage) Ask one real discovery question tied to what you just said, then listen more than you talk.

(To close) "Based on what you've said, it sounds like it'd be worth 15 minutes to show you exactly how this would work for [their situation]. Does Thursday afternoon work, or is Tuesday better?"

The two moves that matter here: naming the call as a cold call up front, and giving a specific reason instead of a generic pitch. Everything after that is just a normal conversation.

Template 2: The referral / warm intro call

Use this when someone gave you the name, but the prospect isn't expecting your call.

"Hi [name], this is [you], [mutual contact] suggested I reach out, do you have a minute?"

(If yes) "[Mutual contact] mentioned you're [specific situation they shared]. I work with [role]s on exactly that, wanted to see if it'd be worth a quick conversation."

(If they ask why) Give the same specific, outcome-focused answer as the cold template, but you can lean harder on the shared context, since the referral already bought you some trust.

The name you're allowed to drop is doing real work here. Use it early, then get back to being specific fast, a referral doesn't excuse a vague pitch.

Template 3: The re-engagement call

Use this on a lead who went cold: they took a demo, downloaded something, or replied once and then disappeared.

"Hi [name], this is [you] from [company], we spoke a while back about [specific thing they were dealing with]. Didn't want to just assume it went away, wanted to check in."

(If they respond) "Is that still something you're working through, or did it get solved a different way?"

(Either answer is useful) If it's solved, ask how, it's free market research. If it's not, you have a warmer opening than a cold call, because they've already told you the problem is real.

The part scripts can't do for you

A script gives you the shape of the call. It doesn't give you the calm, unhurried tone that makes any of these actually land, and that only comes from having said the lines enough times that they stop sounding like lines. That's the gap between reading a script and sounding like yourself on a real call, and it's the specific thing daily drilling in DialDynamics is built to close.
